Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most thoroughly researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine available.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body (channels). Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including the painless insertion of very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve the Qi flow. The many general benefits of acupuncture include:

  • Pain reduction
  • Stress and tension relief
  • Increased energy levels
  • Greater sense of overall health and well-being
  • A specific treatment plan according to your disease condition and symptoms

Acupressure (online)

Acupressure is based on one the most ancient principles of healing — that applying pressure or manipulating with hand techniques a specific point on the body will improve health.  In an acupressure session online, advice will be given on how to apply pressure and manipulation techniques directly to specific points on the body, depending on your condition and symptoms.  Acupressure can also help in the Chinese Medicine diagnosis of your condition and in treatment planning.

Chinese Herbology

Chinese herbal medicine is a powerful method of healing.  It is a 2,000 year old tradition that uses naturally occurring substances.  Chinese Herbal Formulas treat the Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis underlying your disease condition, revealed by the consultation, and nourish and support the body's natural self-healing processes.

Chinese Herbal Formulas include mostly plant, sometimes mineral - but never animal ingredients when individually prescribed and prepared in the West.  The Chinese adopted and incorporated herbs from all over the world in the history of their medicine.  15-20% of the 500 common ingredients considered standard originated from outside China.  However, in Traditional Chinese Medicine these herbs are prescribed according to Chinese medicine principles.

Chinese herbs are usually prescribed in formulas to combine and enhance their individual properties and actions.  The particular needs of each client can be matched by individual herbal formulas to treat the disease condition and symptoms.  It may be that a standard Chinese Herbal Formula prescription will be sufficient, or a slightly modified one.  Herbs can be prescribed for a short or long time, depending on the condition being treated.  Formulas are traditionally available in a variety of forms, such as loose herbs for tea preparation, liquid bottled extracts, pills or powders.

Here, Chinese herbs are supplied as gel capsules of dried herbs.  No taste, no smell, no boiling of teas!   The herbal capsules are manufactured by USA/UK companies, and supplied 100% pure, with no contamination in preparation.  The herbal companies conform to all legal and good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards, for both the USA and Europe.

Herbal prescriptions are modified to avoid rare interactions with any simultaneously taken western drugs.  For this reason, it is important in your consultation to give a full list of all western drugs you are concurrently taking.

Massage (Tui Na)

Chinese Massage or Tui Na is an ancient form of bodywork that is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A variety of pressures and strokes along the channels (energy pathways) of the body can both relax muscles and stimulate energy throughout the body. By treating both the physical (musculature) and energetic (Qi) levels of the body at the same time, greater results can be achieved.  Tuina includes deep pressure tissue stretch techniques, similar to Myofascial Release, and can release muscle and fascia "trigger points", so releasing acute or chronic muscular spasms.

Dietary Consultation

Traditional Chinese Medicine has specific information on how dietary choices can impact chronic disease, and health in general.  Depending on the condition and symptoms you are experiencing, following prescribed dietary advice according to your individual circumstances can help and enhance your recovery.  This advice can range from a temporary solution to a more extensive change in dietary lifestyle.  Dr Visconte specializes in advising and assisting clients with diabetic rehab.
